Can the Wind Light Up a Home? Grade 7 Builds a Wind Turbine

October 2026 · Grade 7 · STEAM
Our 7th graders Panuk and Sovanpanha built a wind turbine model with 4D Frame, thinking of families who cannot use electricity freely.
Panuk had the idea and built almost every part himself. But he said, "I'm good at ideas and making things, but not at speaking." So he chose Sovanpanha as his partner, who helped build and became the team's voice. Two different strengths, one team.
Their first try didn't work. They tested the bulb again and again. It wasn't broken; the wind was simply too weak. With their teacher's advice, they used a battery to show how electricity flows from the turbine to the light. Now they dream of a real, much bigger turbine that could light homes, pump water, and help students study at night.
What they learned
Science: how wind becomes electricity (blades → dynamo → wire → bulb)
Engineering: designing and building a real structure with 4D Frame
Character: teamwork, testing, and caring for others
